Family + Relational Trauma Therapy
Healing Wounds From Childhood
Whether or not we like to face this truth, we are all impacted by the environments we grew up in- family and relational trauma impact adulthood. The lessons we learned implicitly about relationships, emotions, and health become the lens through which we see our adult-reality.
And even in adulthood, unresolved family trauma can quietly affect your sense of self-worth, ability to set boundaries, functioning in relationships, and emotional health.
If you:
- Struggle to set boundaries with your parents or family members
- Feel guilt, anger, or obligation in your family relationships
- Notice yourself repeating unhealthy patterns from childhood
- Carry emotional pain from how you were treated- or not treated- as a child
- Have gone low or no contact and wonder what healing might look like
- Want to break generational cycles and create something different for yourself
…you’re not alone. Therapy for family and relational trauma can help.

Family Systems Are Pattern-Forming
You can’t grow up in a family without being shaped by it. The environment you lived in influences how you see yourself and relate to the world as an adult.
Families are always evolving—each person grows, and the system shifts to meet changing needs.
No one person or family gets it perfectly right all the time.
This work centers on your healing.
Whether you want to make peace with your past, manage current family tension, or break cycles passed down through generations, therapy first focuses on your own healing.
You do not have to bring your family members to begin this work.
But if and when you’d like to include them, we can integrate them using Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), a model that helps families repair emotional bonds through structured, attachment-theory-based conversations.
Understanding Family and Relational Trauma
Family trauma isn’t always about big, obvious events, though of course it can. Yet often, it’s the absence of safety, emotional neglect, parentification, or managing a parent’s emotions that leaves deep wounds.
These wounds can show up in adulthood as anxiety, shame, people-pleasing, anger, or feeling disconnected. The pain often lives in your nervous system, even if your mind tries to minimize it.
Even in loving families, no one resolves everything perfectly. It’s natural to carry scars, confusion, and unhelpful patterns as families grow and change.
Unsure If Your Struggles Are “Valid”?
Many clients worry their experiences aren’t serious enough to address. But even without obvious trauma, missing emotional support and safety shapes how you relate to yourself and others.
These unmet needs often influence your relationships, self-worth, and sense of safety in ways you may not notice until you start to look closely—like feeling easily triggered, struggling with trust, or parenting challenges.
Healing Family and Relational Trauma is Possible
True freedom begins when you uncover childhood lessons and stop reacting to the present as if you’re still stuck in your family system.
In family therapy, I help you explore patterns passed down through generations and the dynamics still at play today. Even the most ingrained patterns can loosen when you see them clearly.
This healing works both inward—addressing parts of you that learned to hide or over-function—and outward—changing how you show up in relationships, parenting, and daily life.
In this way, family therapy can be one of the most transformative paths to healing your mental health and relationships.
Family and Relational Trauma Therapy Can Give You Clarity
I also work with individuals to understand how their family system shaped them. Together, we explore how to break harmful patterns that no longer serve you.
In family therapy, I can also help families navigate transitions, secrets, conflicts, and crises like infidelity, grief, or illness.
I’ll guide you to notice how current patterns form and persist, then work with you to create healthier ways of relating that support you and your family.
