Couples Therapy Intensives
Accelerated Counseling Sessions
Couples Therapy Intensives
Instead of spending several months in weekly therapy, a couples therapy intensive gives you concentrated time to heal, reconnect, and move forward in a more target, accelerated way. If you…
- Are feeling more like roommates than partners
- Find yourself stuck in the same arguments time and time again
- Try to express your needs, but then end up arguing about how you argue, leaving needs ever-unmet
- Worry that intimacy is gone and out of reach
- Can feel that trust has been damaged and are unsure if and how you can rebuild
- Know your relationship needs work, but weekly sessions don’t fit into the structure of your life
….a Couples Therapy Intensive might offer the shift your relationship has been looking for.
In one powerful intensive block, I’ll help work with you to:
- Identify the root of your patterns (not just the symptoms)
- Get unstuck from communication that isn’t working
- Rebuild trust
- Practice new ways to communicate that get needs met
- Achieve clarify, direction, and tools to implement for the lifetime of your relationship
This is your opportunity to make lasting change in your relationship. Through intensive marriage counseling, I help couples process pain, heal, and move forward in an effective, targeted way.
What Are Couples Therapy Intensives?
Couples therapy intensives give you a focused, accelerated opportunity to understand your communication patterns, heal unresolved issues, and begin creating a new pattern of fulfilling connection with your partner. When your relationship feels stuck, weekly sessions sometimes aren’t enough to gain traction and move forward. Setting aside a larger block of time lets you fully commit to the relationship—diving in, processing stuck points, and resetting toward your shared goals.
Unlike weekly therapy, a couples therapy intensive condenses the work of several weeks or months into one deep, focused experience. It suits couples who want insight, movement, and connection, and who want to practice implementing new strategies and see results quickly.
While traditional therapy happens in 50 or 90-minute sessions each week, that format realistically does not work for everyone. Life gets busy. Work, childcare, and family obligations can make it hard to stay consistent.
Yet, missing sessions slows momentum, stalls progress, and can lead to giving up before you’ve really reached the depths of the work.

Marriage intensives remove barriers that slow progress in weekly therapy. They give you uninterrupted time to understand each other, break negative patterns, and learn powerful tools for lasting change. You don’t need to be married. These intensives work for any couple ready to invest in their relationship and deepen their connection with themselves and each other.
In my years of experience, I’ve seen how the healing benefits of couples therapy move both inward and outward. The work changes you as a person, helping you heal wounds you didn’t even realize you carried. It also changes how you show up in the world—as a partner, parent, leader, and community member. Applying tools from modern relationship science can transform not only your partnership but your life together.
What’s Included In An Intensive?
A Couples Therapy Intensive condenses the first four sessions of traditional weekly therapy into a focused 3.5-hour block. You can use the intensive as a standalone session or as the first step in ongoing couples therapy.
The intensive includes two focused blocks of work with an hour break in between, giving you the equivalent of five full couples therapy sessions.
block 1
- Intake session: 50-minute session to gather background and goals
- Individual interviews: Two 50-minute individual sessions (one with each partner)
block 2
- Focused therapy session: 50 minutes dedicated to exploring relationship patterns and fostering emotional reconnection
This is not just four sessions back-to-back. It’s a guided, emotionally attuned process using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the leading model of couples therapy backed by modern research in the field of relationship science.

Who Are Intensives For?
Intensives is ideal for couples who:
- Feel stuck and need clarity or change
- Wish to focus on working on and repairing their relationship without ‘starting and stopping’ between weekly sessions

- Are seeking a reset in a long-term relationship
- Would like to build a solid foundation for a new relationship
- Are both open to engaging and exploring
- Are not dealing with active addiction or abuse
Intensive therapy for couples works best when committed couples:
- Both want to work on the relationship
- Have motivation to resolving conflicts and working toward deeper connection
- Are both willing to attend and participate with engagement
- Have no untreated mental health or substance abuse issues
- Do not display abusive behavior toward one another
- Can tolerate difficult emotions for longer lengths of time

Virtual Couples Therapy Intensives
Worried about doing this work through a screen?
I get it. Many couples wonder if a virtual couples therapy can really be as effective. Yet, research shows— and I can attest from experience working with hundreds of couples online— that the most important factor in successful couples therapy isn’t whether we meet in person or on Zoom.
It’s the strength of our relationship with each other (whether we click, whether you feel safe and supported, etc.) and the effectiveness of the approach (EFT) we’re using. And EFT is one of the most well-researched and effective methods for couples out there, with over 90% of couples showing significant improvement post treatment.
If you’re still uncomfortable about doing this virtually, I totally get it! Unfortunately, at this time, I don’t offer in-person sessions and would recommend you look for another option.
How do virtual sessions work?
For virtual sessions, I require that both partners join from the same room and device. When couples are guided to slow down, tune into one another, and speak from the heart, the change happens. This change is much more effective if you are in the room together (eye contact between intimate partners is part of the magic!).
Even virtually, couples intensives create the emotional space and momentum needed for transformation. You’re not simply squeezing therapy into your day as another task to check off the list. Instead, you’re setting aside time to prioritize your relationship and engage in a deeper way. That shift in itself creates powerful change.
Many couples tell me: “This was more progress than we’ve made in years of trying on our own.” Hearing each other in a new way offers hope and relief.
Benefits of Couples Therapy Intensives
You can use this Couples Intensive as a standalone session to gain clarity, connection, and actionable insights for your relationship, or you can use it as the first step in ongoing therapy, functioning as an in-depth intake that sets the stage for future sessions.
Many couples report that this focused approach helps them make more progress in a single day, building meaningful momentum at the start of therapy.
Build new patterns
In terms of therapy that will work for a couple, there is no one size fits all. Sustained change happens slowly with persistence over time. Still, couples therapy intensives are a way to set couples up to support one another in a new relationship pattern and continue building out that change after the intensive is over. Following the session, you can focus on practicing new communication with each other until it becomes the new culture of their relationship.
Go deeper
In weekly therapy, the reality is that you only have so much time to get into the deep work. I have clients before and after you, and you have other obligations before and after session. During an intensive block, timing is less of an issue. If we’re on the edge of a breakthrough, we can keep going without worrying so much about the clock.
Traction and Momentum
This intensive format of therapy delivers unique benefits and helps you keep traction that can be hard to maintain in weekly sessions, where progress often stops and starts. The time is yours. When you choose to step away from the chaos of daily life for half a day, you show yourself and your partner that you’re ready to focus on your relationship in a deeper way than ever before. You build momentum and accelerate the therapy process.
focus on only your relationship
A marriage intensive gives couples a rare opportunity to slow down, turn off their phones, step away from work and kids, and focus entirely on each other. In this space, couples address and transform core issues in their relationship.
Clinical Approach- Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a powerful approach to couples therapy that helps partners feel closer and more secure in their relationship. The model supports the idea that when we feel disconnected or hurt in our relationship, it’s often because deeper emotional needs are not being met.
Instead of getting caught up in surface-level arguments—like which day the fight happened or how long it lasted—EFT helps couples see the patterns beneath the conflict and understand what’s really going on. Getting to the root of the issues allows us to create sustainable, effective solutions.
EFT creates a safe space where partners can be open and vulnerable with each other. In therapy, couples learn to slow down their reactions and truly hear one another, something that often gets missed in the rush of daily life.
During the intensive, you’ll begin to identify the patterns that keep you stuck and practice new ways to respond with compassion and care. We’ll lay the groundwork in the session, and as you continue to practice and apply these skills, you build trust, deepen connection, and strengthen your relationship over time.
Is An Intensive Enough?
Think of an intensive as consolidating the first month and a half of couples therapy into one focused, structured experience. You’ll get a clear understanding of your patterns, tools to break negative cycles, and a head start on making changes.
Real, lasting change comes from processing and implementing these insights and techniques in your daily life outside of session, not just in the therapy room.
If you find yourself struggling after the intensive, you can book follow-up sessions with me for continued support.
Most couples need more than a month of therapy to create and sustain meaningful change, but an intensive is a great place to dive in.
“Danielle is fantastic! We did an intensive. She is so highly skilled and very present in her work with us. I recommend her wholeheartedly for moving any relationship to the next level. Thanks a million!”
